The Artist

Picture
Ava Lee Millman Fisher, MTA, BMT, LMus, AMus, DipEd, is a graduate of the Faculty of Music of McGill University, where she specialized in classical voice performance in Opera and Lieder.  Her lirico-spinto soprano was heard in many performances of Hebrew and Yiddish music as well.

Ava Lee is also a graduate of Macdonald College for Teachers (an affiliate of McGill University), where she qualified as a music specialist, and subsequently taught at both the elementary and high school levels.  While teaching students with special needs and unique abilities, Ava Lee became aware that another passion was blossoming.  It was to remain an unfulfilled longing for but a short while - until all four of her sons were attending school full-time.  When that transpired, Ava Lee delightedly returned to university and completed her degree, internship, and accreditation in Music Therapy.  Her practise has included working with adults with chronic and severe mental illness, as well as with children and adolescents with varying special requirements.  Having distinguished herself as an author, Ava Lee has written for a number of professional journals on multiple aspects of Music Therapy and integrated allied creative arts.

Ava Lee is a dedicated and devoted visual artist who brings all that she is, and all that she knows, to her work.  As a young child, it was recognized that she exhibited an obvious delight in all that was artful then known to her.  She was encouraged to study piano, ballet, drama, and painting.  With maturation, she continued to demonstrate a developing interest in the arts, and passionately pursued them in the spirit of adventure and exploration.  She commenced voice lessons at the prestigious Ecole Vincent D'Indy in Montreal.  Ava Lee developed a keen ear and eye in the areas of proportion, contrast, symmetry, and colour ... both aural and visual.  She also studied the past with an emphasis and excitement which was constantly alive to the treasures of both her religion and her culture.

Her life's desire and decision as a concerned individual were, and are, to live life as an art form, and to make artistic use of the materials to which she has access  -  that is, to create form, and to attempt to be true in expressing the feelings of mankind; the first being in the realm of construction, and the second, content.  This  choice of values was acknowledged by "N'shei Chabad", when Ava Lee was presented with an award for "Enriching the World".  This states, in part,  "... pays tribute to Ava Lee Millman Fisher, whose talents and creative expression have enriched our world, and who has used her divine gift to give of her time, energy, and creativity to the enhancement of the Jewish community and her country."  In 2018 Ava Lee's "Herstory" was included in "LIVING LEGACIES: A Collection of Narratives by Contemporary Canadian Jewish Women".  Ava Lee is also amongst the 365 Canadian women to be included in the 2021 book, "pursuit: 365".

This artist delights in painting both Judaica and secular motifs.  Ava Lee is considered to be a highly original and creative thinker, all the while maintaining that the most innovative and important of her many artistic accomplishments are her four sons ... and, by extension, her grandchildren.
